This term we're exploring Dance. At first some of us thought it might not be that much fun, but we're beginning to realise we were wrong! We've been doing locomotor and non-locomotor movements (ask us to explain what these are). Today we buddied up and had to put together two of these movements. We randomly picked two movements, practised, and then performed in front of the class. The audience had to try and work out which two movements we were combining. How would you perform these combinations?

We finished the first day of Book Week by hosting Rooms 3 and 4, our two New Entrants classes. We buddied up and read each other books out in the sunshine on the Village Green. Then we came inside and watch some books - yes, we watched some books! Can you figure out how we did that? Our Book Week fun continued after our author visit this morning. We built READING HUTS! We had to work together to build our huts, and then got to reading or writing underneath them. Mrs T even joined in and worked on some poetry! Do you like to build huts? Today we were very lucky to have a visit from famous New Zealand author, Melinda Szymanik. Ask us to tell you about some of the books she's written.
Melinda told us that if you are a reader, you are a superhero! Reading books is a super power! She told us how readers can:
Melinda decided she was going to be an author when she was about 8 years old - that's the same as us!! It's the first week back for Term 3, so that means it's time to learn some new maths games! This week we learned how to play Rubbish Bins, Beat the Teacher, War, and Boggle. The first two games make use of our Place Value knowledge (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones) as we try to make the biggest or smallest number to win. The second two games are great for practising our Basic Facts. Ask us to tell you which was our favourite and why. Even better, ask us to teach you how to play one of these awesome games! On Tuesday we had our first Mandarin lesson for the Term from Hao, our new Mandarin Language Assistant. We recapped how to say 'hello', 'goodbye', and 'my name is ______'. We got to practise using Hao's cute animal puppets, We also sang a funny song. You could try singing along to the video below. You could ask us to teach you! We've had some pretty cold, frosty, winter mornings recently, so we thought we'd write about the frost that covers our cars and lawns, and even the Village Green outside our classroom! Here are a few examples of our amazing 'Show Not Tell' descriptions. Can you spot the amazing WOW words we've used? Do you notice the language features we included? The rest are hanging up in our class - come in and check them out! |
