We've been writing up a persuasive storm! We've been using the 'OREO' structure to set out our writing: O = state your Opinion R = give Reasons E = support with Examples O = state your Opinion again Can you also spot our 'bossy verbs' (these are called imperatives)?
Dear Mum and Dad, You need to get me another puppy when we come back from Africa. Stroking pets calms people down. When we get angry or upset we can snuggle up to them. When we play with our dog it gives us exercise and if we get another puppy then we'll get more exercise. If we get another puppy Storm will have a friend to play with when we go out and she won't have to run up to all of the other dogs at the beach. The best thing about dogs is that they're loyal, playful, energetic, and adorable. You need to get me another puppy. Please! Love from Roxy Dear Mum,
In my opinion, you should definitely get me a snow leopard for Christmas. Our house will be protected and it will scare away robbers. It will keep Frank company when we go away. I can ride it to school to save fuel. I will feed it and I will give it baths. You must get me a snow leopard. Thanks in advance, Nico

We've been writing up a storm - a Christmas storm, full of kindness and love! We're participating in an initiative that makes, writes, and sends Christmas cards to lonely people who may not usually receive cards or messages. We LOVE LOVE LOVE that we're making a difference in the world, and we are super proud that we will be responsible for bringing smiles to people's faces. Our goal is to make or collect more than 500 cards! Today we hit 82! Do you have any blank cards you can donate us? Or would you like to write your own? Go on! Get involved! What do you think? Mrs T told us that Auckland City Council are asking for feedback on whether public sales of fireworks should be banned. We certainly had lots of opinions on this!
We talked about persuasive writing. We discussed the reasons we persuade: - to make someone believe something - to convince someone to do something - to change someone's opinion Then we had a class debate. We had to state our opinion and then give reasons and examples to support it. We worked to persuade people on the opposite side to us to change their minds. We had lots of agreeing and disagreeing - it was awesome! In the end, quite a few of us changed our minds and moved to different sides. We know that it's really important to be open to changing your mind. We'll be able to write a letter to the Council now, to try and persuade them to agree with us. Tell us what you think in the comments - remember to give some good reasons and examples to support your opinion! The more reasons and examples you provide, the more persuasive you can be! |
