This term we've been working on writing Character Descriptions. We've looked at describing the 'Outside' (appearance) and 'Inside' (personality, things they do / say, etc) of different characters. For this writing activity we had to interview a buddy and then write a description of them. Can you guess who the classmates are behind these masks? You can see more of our amazing character descriptions in our class.

It was our turn to host our school assembly on Friday. Of course we did a great job. Everyone had a turn speaking into the microphone. Some of us were excited, some of us were nervous, but we all made Mrs T and Mrs Anderson proud. We spoke clearly and confidently. Were you there?
We love Jump Jam. It's a fun fitness activity! Yesterday we were so lucky to have Brett, the Jump Jam guy come to visit us at school and show us some new Jump Jam dances. The whole school went up to the hall. Even the teachers joined in with us! You can see a little video of them on stage on our school Facebook page here.
Today we had Ginny from ASB Bank visit us. She's part of the GetWise Financial Literacy team. Ginny helped us become CASHLETES! She gave us a wristband at the end of the session to show we'd completed the training and become certified Cashletes. Ginny talked to us about:
We also talked about prioritising needs over wants. How do you feel about money, saving, and spending? . . . sometimes the first one does the talking! Check out this cute video clip that shows us our spelling rule for this week: Today some of us worked on some multiplication word problems. First we had to find the number sentence in the word problem. Next we needed to draw a picture of it. Then we had to solve the problem. Finally we had to explain our strategy to the rest of the group.
One of our problems was: There were five people at a party, if each person had four biscuits each. How many biscuits would be needed? Irene drew 5 plates, and put 4 biscuits on each. She then wrote a repeated addition number sentence: 4+4+4+4+4 = ? Irene then used her doubling addition strategy 4+4=8. She then double this 8+8=16. Lastly she added on the final 4 so that 16+4=20. Niamh did it a bit differently. She decided to swap 5x4 into 4x5 because she knew the answer would be the same. Niamh then drew 4 plates with 5 biscuits on each. She could have skip counted in 5s to work it out, but instead used repeated addition and doubling (like Irene) to solve the number problem. Hao visited our class again today. We recapped our greetings and then worked on counting to 10. We learned a cool numbers rap song. Here it is, in case you want to learn to count in Chinese too! We also played a fun game that involved hiding Hao's pig puppet in the class room. It was similar to the hot/cold game. Ask us to tell you about it. The mouse is holding the teddy bear with his front paws.
He has soft, white fur and a twitching nose. He looks cute. By Bella It started out as an overcast, rainy day, but the sky cleared and the rain stopped just in time for our annual Book Character Parade. Yay! We walked out of school and did a loop of our local community and shopping mall. It was so much fun! Lots of our whanau and people from the community watched us parade. Mrs T's dog, Frank, even walked with us! Can you name any of our book characters? What did you dress up as? Did you watch us walking through Highbury? Tell us in the comments! Today in maths we worked to understand what multiplication is all about. We realised that the 'x' can mean:
We drew pictures of multiplication number sentences to help us understand the concept. |
