Most of us love mindfulness in Room 19. Some of us aren't so keen on it, but we know it has many benefits and we work to be respectful of our classmates who really enjoy it. Our Wednesday mindfulness activity was a little bit different to what we've done so far this term. We've had a big focus on tummy breathing this term (ask us to show you how to blow up your tummy balloon and do some nice, deep, relaxing tummy breathing), so we started off with that to get us calmed down after lunch. While our eyes were closed, Mrs T walked around the room and dropped an object into each of our hands. We had to keep our eyes closed and we weren't allowed to peek at what it was. We very quickly figured out that we had shells in our hands. We took the time to feel them; noticing where the smooth parts were, where it felt rough or bumpy. We noticed if there were any sharp or pointy edges. After a while we began to feel ridges, and small holes or dents. We noticed the shape. We smelled our shells (they didn't smell too great to be honest!). We gently rubbed them on our cheeks, around our foreheads, and on our arms. Still keeping our eyes shut, we swapped shells with those at our table and mindfully explored our new shells. At the end of the activity we closed our eyes again and used our senses to find our original shell. We were surprised by how many little details we had noticed about our shells, without even looking at them! Do you like mindfulness? You might have some new ideas for us to try in Room 19 - tell us in the comments!

Easter falls in the holidays this year, but that didn't stop us icing and decorating some biscuits yesterday! Our learning focus was on listening carefully and following instructions. As well as that, we needed to put our Key Competency skills into play as we shared, took turns, and exhibited patience. First, we "set the table" with our newsprint plates, biodegradable bowl and cutlery, and ourselves (with our freshly washed hands - hygiene is important!). Next, Mrs T and Victoria (one of our Teacher Aides) put a few spoonfuls of icing sugar into our bowl, followed by a sprinkling of yellow food colouring and a squirt of water. We had to take turns stirring and mixing and it took a bit of trial and error (by adding more water or more icing sugar) until we got the right consistency for icing our biscuits. Our fine motor skills were given a workout as we used the knife to ice our biscuits carefully - this was also good practice for us to try making our own sandwiches for lunch! After our biscuits were iced, we used marshmallows to make a little bunny footprint for the decoration. Mrs T tortured us by making us wait until we'd cleaned up AND gone outside for a photo before we were able to taste our delicious creations. Some of us tried shoving the whole thing in our mouths in one go, and some of us took little bites to make it last as long as possible! Maybe we could make some Easter biscuits for you during the holidays. Room 19 have been exploring metaphors. Metaphors say something IS something else...see if you can spot all the metaphors we used to describe our families in the poems below. PS: Check out our cool borders! Room 21 and 22 went outside to practice our ball throwing and catching skills with some of the new sports equipment! The gear included:
This week Room 19 had their art day with Miss Houghton. Our artist was Salvador Dali; a surrealist painter. Throughout the day we:
