Easter falls in the holidays this year, but that didn't stop us icing and decorating some biscuits yesterday! Our learning focus was on listening carefully and following instructions. As well as that, we needed to put our Key Competency skills into play as we shared, took turns, and exhibited patience. First, we "set the table" with our newsprint plates, biodegradable bowl and cutlery, and ourselves (with our freshly washed hands - hygiene is important!). Next, Mrs T and Victoria (one of our Teacher Aides) put a few spoonfuls of icing sugar into our bowl, followed by a sprinkling of yellow food colouring and a squirt of water. We had to take turns stirring and mixing and it took a bit of trial and error (by adding more water or more icing sugar) until we got the right consistency for icing our biscuits. Our fine motor skills were given a workout as we used the knife to ice our biscuits carefully - this was also good practice for us to try making our own sandwiches for lunch! After our biscuits were iced, we used marshmallows to make a little bunny footprint for the decoration. Mrs T tortured us by making us wait until we'd cleaned up AND gone outside for a photo before we were able to taste our delicious creations. Some of us tried shoving the whole thing in our mouths in one go, and some of us took little bites to make it last as long as possible! Maybe we could make some Easter biscuits for you during the holidays.
