You might remember we wrote letters to the Auckland Council trying to persuade them to agree with us about whether or not to ban the public sale of fireworks. Well, we heard back from them. They LOVED our letters! We were pretty happy to receive some lovely emailed feedback telling us that our letters were the best they had ever received. We were super surprised and happy though when we received a big package full of Auckland Council goodies as a thank you for us being involved citizens who participate and contribute to the community and city we live in. Go us!

You know we've been making and collecting Christmas cards to send to those who are alone and lonely at Christmastime...well, word of the Sending Love project has spread, and some of us are going to be on TV!
A cameraman and producer from TV 3's 'The Project' came to school on Friday and filmed us writing some cards. They talked to Hannah, the lady who started Sending Love, and a short clip is going to be shown on TV tonight, asking for more people to write cards. Sending Love, which we are a part of, are about 20,000 cards short for what we need this year (the nationwide goal is 100,000 - last year we got 32,000). Room 12 have definitely done our part - our goal was 500 cards, and our current total is 918! We are so proud of ourselves. It's not too late for you to help us out - the deadlines have been extended! Get writing! We were super lucky to have Kazza, Lucy's Nanna, come and give us a presentation on volcanoes. Kazza is a scientist whose job it is to monitor volcanoes! She showed us a great slideshow, we got to share lots of our scientific and volcanic knowledge with her, we were able to get hands on with some volcanic rocks, and some of us even got to try on a special helmet that the scientists use when testing volcanic gasses.
The gorgeous kids from Room 5 came to visit us last week. They wanted to share their "Olden Days" booklets with us. They read to us, and then we read some of our class or library books to them. We had a lovely time! It's great to have opportunities to share our learning and also to be leaders to children who are younger than us. Thanks for coming Room 5! We did a weaving activity the other week (Mrs T is a bit behind on our blog entries!). We wove wool through little plastic frame things. This worked on our fine motor skills, which we know help us with handwriting and fiddly tasks like doing up buttons and shoelaces, etc.
Term 4 and the (slightly) warmer weather means....Swimming time!
We are working on floating effectively on our fronts and backs, entering and exiting the pool safely, and confidently putting our heads under the water and blowing bubbles. |
