Mrs Anderson has been visiting each class in Whanake Team and showing us how to create Stop Motion Animations. Animation is the art of manipulating pictures/non-living objects, to make them appear as moving images.
Room 19 have enjoyed learning how to use an app on our iPads to create animations. You can see some of our Stop Motion Animations HERE. Ask us to tell you how we made them. One of the most anticipated events on the Whanake calendar is our 'Minute to win it' challenge that Mrs Anderson hosts at team time. Each class nominates one or two members to participate and Mrs Anderson sets the challenge...
This week, the challenge was to use play-dough and build a bridge that a pen could fit under and sit on top of. Well done to all our participants! Our favourite bit is definitely getting to cheer at the top of our lungs for our mates! Crunch! The dried, brown and yellow leaves scrunched up. All the trees were covering me. As I walked deeper and deeper, it got darker and darker. The birds were chirping a beautiful melody. It was so relaxing! The roots of the tall trees were covering the floor like a big carpet, and the bushes were all spiky. The leaves of the trees were falling, and as they were falling they looked like butterflies dancing. Birds were flying through the gentle air. Suddenly, the trees' shadows looked like big scary monsters trying to eat me. As I walked deeper, I was scared to death. The wind was blowing so strong; I was freezing like an ice cube. Leaves were flying everywhere so fast. Trees were swishing all around me and it looked like they were aiming at me. I said to myself, "Run!"
By JiMin Choe Crunch! Snap! I could hear the leaves being crunched onto the solid dirt under my feet. The trees were towering over me like sky scrapers. Flip, flop, twirl. The yellow and brown crinkled leaves danced like ballerinas. Smooth, emerald green leaves swooped and swooshed. A fat kereru perched high on a branch. By Archie Shanahan Crunch! Crunch went the leaves under my feet. I could hear a choir of birds singing as me and my classmates walked through Lawson Reserve. I could taste the cold air in my mouth. Half way down we stopped under a tree as my teacher spotted a kereru. It was towering above us. It was as fat as an elephant. It looked like it might poop on my teachers head any second. There was a bad smell and I bet $40 that it was bird poop. The birds were chirping like wild now and it was like we were in a jungle. By Ben Fox Cold, chilly air brushed against my cheeks as I walked into a world of red, yellow, and brown. The crackly, brown leaves snapped to pieces as my feet stepped on them. The trees towered over me like giants huddling together. Sparrows flew from tree to tree like airplanes in the clouds. By Albie Larsen In the last week, the children in Room 12 have been authors, illustrators, artists, airplane designers, videographers, dancers, actors, interviewers, shop keepers, bank staff, chefs, greeting-card creators, architects and scientists. Phew! What a busy but exciting week we have had!
Here are just some of the skills and competencies that learning through play is helping us to develop in Room 12.
Not only is playing heaps of fun, it also provides lots of opportunities for learning! Check out some of the creative and cooperative play we've been doing this week in Room 19. Can you spot where we needed to share and take turns? Can you find evidence of us working together to solve problems? Can you see where we have had to do lots of talking and negotiating? Can you spot us using our numeracy or literacy skills? Can you see us having fun, using our imaginations and being creative? In Room 12, we love creating books for our friends to read. We think carefully about the exciting words we could use to keep our readers interested and we love to spend lots of time making sure our illustrations are like masterpieces!
Here are children reading two books. One created by Weston and one created by Micah, Lucas and Caleb! In Room 18, we have been doing mindfulness activities after lunch as part of our well-being studies. One of the mindfulness activities include thinking about and writing down all the things we are grateful for.
"I am grateful for my whanau." "I am grateful for nature." "I am grateful for my friends." "I am grateful for my mum. She's the best." "I am grateful for my life." "I am grateful for my pets." "I am grateful for my dad." "I am grateful for food." Have a think about some of the things you are thankful for today. nRainbow Bubbles Pop! Went the delicate bubbles.
